The Episcopal (meaning Bishop) Church of the USA was founded after the end of the American Revolutionary war. Our roots are in Ango-catholicism, the Church of England, whose colonial churches in North America belonged to before the American Revolutionary War.
After American Independence, most of the former English churches came together and formed the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States of America (although our incorporated name is “The Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society”).
As the Episcopal Church, we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and trace our heritage back to the beginnings of Christianity.
